Update: NSW Solar Bonus Scheme reaches 250MW

Written on the 19th of April 2011 by Brendan Graetz

The NSW Government has committed to a cap of 300 MW of connected capacity through the NSW Solar Bonus Scheme.

As of the 8th April 2011, The total capacity of installations has reached 251 MW (Currently over 350 MW of applications to connect)
If installs continue at the same rate in NSW which it looks like it easily will, the 300 MW Cap will be reached in approximately 2-2.5 Months

Once the 300 MW cap is reached, customers will still be able to connect small scale renewable energy generators to the grid, but will not be eligible to receive bonus payments under the NSW Solar Bonus Scheme.

This basically means it will be up to the customer to "Shop Around" to see which electricity supplier will offer the best deal. Early indications show, that retailers will be offering as little as $0.06c - $0.07c / KWhr. Lets hope that this changes fast!
